Tried to update this using SD card but ended up with a white screen. It now seems that there is no attempt by the display to access the SD card (no activity on the SD card pins can be seen on an oscilloscope). The unit does not respond to commands on uart 2 pins at 115200 baud. I have tried the clock recalibration procedure given in a document in the forum but nothing works.

I already tried that but, as I mentioned the display does not seem to be trying to access the SD card as I cannot see any activity on the pins when I use an oscilloscope.

You need to use a 1-16G SD card, formatted to FAT32 format with 4096 sectors.

I used an SD card formatted with that specification unfortunately (I tried 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 16GB types). I even formatted these from a command window using format/q g:/fs:fat32/a:4096 command.

Should I see some pulses at any of the SD card connector pins on an oscilloscope? I've read the display should check for a card at power on and after that every 3 seconds. At power on, all pins except Vss and pin 9 go from 0V to +3.3V immediately, no other level changes take place.

When the card is in FAT32 4096 format, you can insert the card and download the previous routines to have a try
